Several of the newly released Mercedes GLC F-Cell have been handed over to German customers lately. Amongst them is Hamburg’s Senator Michael Westhagemann.
He believes that hydrogen could be the ideal storage medium to further drive the energy transition in Northern Germany. “We are able to generate large amounts of green hydrogen in the north using electricity mainly from wind farms,” he said. Hydrogen could be used to connect the energy markets for electricity, mobility and building heat. Only with this so-called “Sector Coupling” it will be possible to end the use of nuclear and coal-fired power plants in Germany at the same time.
