Faurecia and Michelin to develop hydrogen fuel cell systems for cars and trucks

Michelin and automotive technology firm Faurecia are creating a joint venture to develop, produce and market hydrogen fuel cell systems for light vehicles, utility vehicles, trucks and other applications.

The French JV will amalgamate all of Michelin’s fuel cell-related activities – including its subsidiary Symbio – with those of Faurecia, offering a range of hydrogen fuel cell systems for immediate use.

Adopting the Symbio brand name, the JV – which is subject to approval by merger authorities – will draw upon Michelin’s expertise in supplying hydrogen fuel cell systems associated with a range of digital services, as well as research & development and production activities. This will also draw on its cooperation with energy and services group Engie on the development of a hydrogen ecosystem.
